Recently I suffered a series of events from highly visible faces not giving me the time of day when the opportunity came about to follow up on “OMG! That’s a great idea. I definitely want to work with you and do that!”  It cost me a considerable amount of money that I didn’t have available to spend that way in the first place.  That pill was a way bitter one to swallow.

As I only shoot for hobby the result reminded me of the true pleasure I find in doing what I do. I came away with a clear concept of my goals and what I’m doing.  It’s important to me in a very dear way, but someone else may not be as passionate about it.  I came to consider that it’s not really their fault if they don’t see it that way.

That being said, I realized the people I do end up working with are those that have made it a point on their end to work with me.  In other words, “it matters to them.”

When I combined that thought with why I do what I do, I realized that my art benefits only when I’m working with those who truly want to work with me.  That’s extremely important to me because there is a pointed purpose behind my art.

The art that I create is “personal” and I don’t care for the sanctity of it to be diminished by creating it with those who merely find it a fun moment at their convenience.  Hence I only want to work with those who truly want to work with me to create the images that I do.  If they’re not committed enough to the idea and process then I’m better off not working with them…. and happier because of it.

Now I have a slightly more arrogant attitude in regards to my art.  It’s not that I think it above anything, anyone or sacred to the masses, but it is sacred to me.  Too sacred for me to waste it on those who just don’t find it as useful to them.

With this attitude I simply won’t allow my passion for what I do to suffer from the lesser interests of others.  I’m even happier for what I do now than when it mattered to me who I worked with.
