Video: The ugly reality of texting while driving

Texting while driving is one of the fastest rising dangers to automobile travel in the world today. Due to the increased amount of fatal traffic accidents involving texting while driving many governments ranging all the way to national levels are enacting laws to make it a crime and sponsoring Public Service Announcements and programs to alert the public about the dangers of texting while driving.

The following five videos, which can be found on YouTube, are of news reports, program clips, and public service advertisements about the ugly realities of texting while driving. The fifth video is from a United Kingdom PSA that has been causing quite a stir due to it’s graphic representation of an automobile accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) driver inattention causes roughly 80% of all collisions. The National Safety Council (NSC) states that automobile crashes are the number-one cause of accidental death in the U.S.

Earlier this year Car and Driver magazine reported on a study that showed texting while driving can impair drivers more than alcohol intoxication.

Quality of the Big Three’s autos not up to par? Check again.

What may be a bit surprising is that the Big Three have already been producing the quality of vehicles that erase such images as results from the J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study over the last three years have shown. According to the 2009 study GM’s Buick division ranks as the best tied with Jaguar for vehicle dependability. Ford Motor Company’s Mercury and Lincoln brands ranked five and eight in the study with Cadillac placing ninth. Buick has ranked among the top ten since 2003.

Add this to the fact that five of the top ten Most Improved Cars and Trucks for 2009 were from domestic divisions of the Big Three and it appears that there has been marked improvement in the quality of the U.S. automakers’ products.

Death by cellphone: A new ad campaign to save lives

My ex-gf looked at me strangely when I turned to her tonight and announced, “from now on when we’re out on the road and we need to use the hand held GPS for directions you will hold it and direct.” She was wondering why I suddenly needed to make this statement so I went on to explain to her why I would no longer try to follow along with the GPS generated map and drive at the same time. It’s just too risky and dangerous.

GM plans to shift overseas production

Apparently GM still doesn’t get it. President Obama’s administration isn’t bailing out major corporations and banks merely to keep them afloat. They’re doing so because they’re trying to revive the American economy. Part of that plan is to give Americans jobs.
